City of Woodward Code Enforcement Office (Community Development, City Hall)

The Code Enforcement Office issues permits for any building activity inside Woodward's city limits, including new structures, moving a structure onto a lot, carports and demolitions, and permits must be obtained before work begins. Contractors doing electrical, plumbing, gas piping or mechanical work pull their own permits there. Land outside the limits is in Woodward County, which publishes its own road and right-of-way permit forms.

Residential code adopted: Section 150.030 of the Woodward City Code adopts the International Residential Code for one- and two-family dwellings, 2018 edition, as adopted by the Oklahoma Uniform Building Code Commission, with local changes in Section 150.031 (Ord. 1637, 21 November 2016; amended Ord. 1733, 3 January 2023). Metal buildings and footings: Woodward's amendments to its adopted 2018 International Building Code (Section 150.016) require an approved engineer-stamped drawing for all metal framed buildings over 120 square feet of floor space, let the building inspector require engineering or architectural drawings for any building, and call for a continuous footing at least 12 by 18 inches for structures over 200 square feet.
Floodplain development permits: The City of Woodward regulates all building activity or development within any special flood hazard area identified by FEMA, and the Code Enforcement Office issues the development permits for those areas.
Zoning confirmation: The city publishes its zoning map on the Community Development page and asks owners to confirm a location's zoning classification in person at the Code Enforcement Office in City Hall. New land developments and proposed subdivisions go to the Community Development Office for review.
County driveway entrances: Outside the city, Woodward County's forms page carries an Application to Construct a Driveway Entrance Within the Woodward County Highway System (form W004), alongside its permit application for public service and pipeline crossings.

Do I need a building permit for a barndominium in Woodward?

Inside the city limits, yes. The Code Enforcement Office issues permits for new structures and other building work, and they must be in hand before work starts.
